A Night Freediving Adventure : Exploring the Mysterious Night Sea of Cebu
Four freedivers recently visited Passion Dive to explore the hidden wonders of the Cebu night sea. Having just arrived in Mactan from Moalboal that same day, they were eager to dive straight into their night freediving session that very evening.
The Magic of the Night Schedule
Our night freediving follows the same professional schedule as our night scuba diving sessions. Preparation begins at the Passion Dive House Reef just before sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon or once darkness fully sets in, we enter the water to witness the ocean’s transformation.
Convenient Walk-in Entry
Passion Dive is uniquely situated in one of the few spots in Mactan where you can walk directly into the ocean. There’s no need for boat transfers; simply walk down the stairs and you’re ready to begin your night adventure.
Safety First, Experience Second
Every night freediving session is personally led by a professional Passion Dive instructor. Because safety is our top priority in the dark, our instructors focus primarily on the well-being and security of our freedivers, ensuring a safe environment over intensive photo or video sessions.

Once you submerge into the Cebu night sea, you’ll experience a profound sense of peace and silence. Relying on a single beam of light from your torch to guide you through the darkness creates a meditative state that is perhaps the greatest charm of night diving.
Meeting Our Nocturnal Friends
The real highlight of night diving is encountering marine life that stays hidden during the day. Crustaceans and other nocturnal creatures, rarely seen in the sunlight, become the stars of the show. Interestingly, these creatures are often quite bold, staying still even when approached with a flashlight.
