Beach Freediving at Passion Dive Housereef – Mactan, Cebu

We conducted a beach freediving session at the Passion Dive housereef. The housereef is one of the few diving points in Mactan, Cebu where you can walk directly into the water without taking a banka boat. As no boat transfer is required, it is easy to fit into your Cebu travel itinerary without any added burden.

A freediver visited Passion Dive for this session. The goal was to take some time during a Cebu trip to review and refine freediving skills, which led to arranging a housereef beach freediving session.

Beach freediving in Mactan, Cebu is not easy to come by. Most dive centers in the area operate by taking guests out on a banka boat to reach their diving points. The Passion Dive housereef, however, allows direct entry by walking down the steps to the water’s edge — making it one of the rare beach freediving locations available in Mactan.

Beach freediving is a different experience from hopping tours or fun diving trips that involve banka transfers. With skill acquisition and skill revival as the main focus, divers are able to concentrate fully on their freediving practice. Descent practice was also included in the session. The head-down position is one of the most fundamental and essential skills in freediving. The housereef terrain gradually deepens from the shallow entry zone, making it suitable for progressive skill training at various levels.
